*Over-Qualified*
Remember how I applied for a job...just to get a change of *scenery* so to speak.....well last week, I got a call stating that I was "over-qualified" Overqualified? What does that mean exactly? According to this local company, I exceeded their qualificcation and requirements....Kinda made me laugh. I never thought I'd be "too good" to work in the corporate world...but hey, if that's what they say....I'll take it as a compliment and move on.
Lately, I've been busy with interpretations and translations....so busy that I've been working almost 10 hrs some days....but I'm content, and I guess I don't need a change after all....I guess I underestimated myelf when applying for this job.....Guess I'd better stick to what I'm best at....Overqualified....psht!

those bastards!
i hate that...overqualified...it's just code word for "we've found someone who's more willing to kiss our ass than you." whatever.
so do you interpret/translate korean only? any other languages? sounds interesting.
LE: yeah, either that or they found someone who was willing to go down on the starting salary...pff!
Yeah, Just KOR...I wish I could speak other languages...but only know bits and pieces of chinese, japanese, and spanish...probably the same bits and pieces that you know...heh
that's cool. i'm basically illiterate in korean. i can read some stuff, but can't write it worth a damn. oh, i can write my name. hehe.
i only know spanish words for food. :)
could be worse. they could've not called you back :P
or you could look online and only find admin positions.
yeah. my life is sucking right now ;P
'over-qualified' is just an internal code word: we can't afford this person. as a hiring manager, that was my que to HR that i want the person, but the person is well beyond my budget.
take it for what it's worth: nada. for a position, you're either qualified or not .. there is no such thing as 'over' qualified.
the appropriate response to that answer, btw, is to tell them:
"thank you for the call, and i remain interested in the position; however, it seems that i am qualified for the position but the company believes it needs someone with less than qualified experience. thank you for the opportunity to understand the company's attitude and culture."
LE: aww, You can understand it...plus I believe you're making the big bucks doing what you do anyhow!
Grrr: You're right, but I still think they're full of it!
Is there anything I can do to make things better? Jst let me know =)
Nam: Thank you for the clarification on *overqualifed* I'm not sure if I feel better or worse. You just confirmed that they are full of shit! Screw them...didn't need them anyway...HA
Overqualified -- pishaw! So they were lookin' for underqulaified folks? Maybe that says a lot about the company...
